African Blackwood is the wood used for clarinets and similar musical instruments. It is a hard dense wood with a nice luster to it, and makes excellent shift knobs. The color varies from dark chocolate brown to black.

Car Model

The shape was inspired by the shape and shifting ergonomics used in some Le Mans race cars. It works quite well. The handle shape gives good control and the rounded top makes it comfortable.

This knob was sanded with 1,500 grit silicon carbide paper and buffed to a high polish. Numerous coats of hand-rubbed Polyurethane were applied to seal the wood and protect it. The hand-rubbed method allows the finish to penetrate into the grain without leaving a plastic-looking coating over the surface.

Care: Typically, no special care is needed. Cleaning can usually be accomplished by rubbing with a soft cloth. If more aggressive methods are required, a damp cloth, or furniture cleaner can be used.

Interior shot lightened so knob would be visible against the black interior. Knob is not this pale.

Black and dark brown grain pattern. In bright light it has a nice glow to the grain. There is an interesting grain pattern on one side.
