The shape was inspired by the shape and shifting ergonomics used in some Le Mans race cars. I drove from Carmel to Los Angeles (mostly on Hwy 1 twisties) with this knob in my MCS. I found it to be excellent as far as comfort and control went. It is easy to grab when you are busy concentrating on the road. The extra height gives you more leverage, so shifts are easier. Excellent for the endurance commuter, long trips, or your attempt at Le Mans. The other consequence of the extra heigh is that shift throw distance is a little longer (if you grab it near the top) so you might lose a tenth of a second in your shift. I found it unnoticeable in street driving. On the other hand, the knob is closer to your hand position on the wheel, so you may reach it more quickly. This knob was sanded with 1,500 grit silicon carbide paper and buffed to a high polish. Numerous coats of hand-rubbed Polyurethane were applied to seal the wood and protect it. The hand-rubbed method allows the finish to penetrate into the grain without leaving a plastic-looking coating over the surface. Care: Typically, no special care is needed. Cleaning can usually be accomplished by rubbing with a soft cloth. If more aggressive methods are required, a damp cloth, or furniture cleaner can be used. |
Interior shot lightened so knob would be visible against the black interior. |
Black and dark brown grain pattern. In bright light it has a nice glow to the grain. |
